Raccoons are on the loose in West Virginia, and they’re not rabid – they’re just trashed, police said.

Officers in the town of Milton – about 35 miles west of Charleston – are warning residents to be on the lookout for “staggering and disoriented” raccoons that are intoxicated after eating too many crab apples that fermented on the tree.

Locals had called authorities on the wobbly creatures out of concern they might have rabies.

Police say they solved the caper after catching one of the animals on Monday.

“So, Ptl Scarberry made his first apprehension today, taking this masked bandit into custody with assistance of Sgt Collins and several neighborhood residents. We have had calls on suspected rabid raccoons twice over the last two days. Turns out they appear to be drunk on crab apples. Ptl Withers caught one yesterday on Brickyard Ave with the help of the city street department,” reads a post from the Milton Police Department’s Facebook page.

Still, cops warned to stay away from the raccoons.

“If you see a staggering and disoriented raccoon please do not approach it. It could be sick so call us and we’ll take care of it. Welcome to Milton Dallas,” the Facebook post continues.
