Disturbing video shows the moment a cop in India had his hand chopped off by a sword-wielding man during an attack that happened as the officer was enforcing a roadblock amid the coronavirus crisis.

The clip, obtained by SWNS, shows a white pickup truck barreling through a police barricade at a vegetable market in the Patiala district of Punjab on Sunday morning before the officers with large sticks in their hands surround the vehicle.

The officers are seen whacking the vehicle with the batons.

One man leaped out of the car and launched the wild sword attack, the clip shows.

Harjeet Singh, an assistant sub-inspector on the police force, had his right hand severed during the chaos.

Singh can be seen in the video getting up off the ground, and later other officers are seen holding his amputated hand.

“There was a heated argument after the police asked them to furnish the curfew passes, but they continued crashing the vehicles on the barricades,” Senior Superintendent of Police Mandeep Singh Sidhu said, according to SWNS.

Two other policemen sustained minor injuries as a result of the attack.

Singh was rushed to a local hospital, then transferred to a larger medical facility, where he underwent an hours-long operation.

About 20 men have been detained by the police in connection with the attack, according to the news agency.

India has more than 11,000 confirmed coronavirus cases and a total of 405 deaths as a result of the contagion, according to the latest data compiled by the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center.
