A mallard built a nest and laid her eggs in a planter in a sheltered section of a Lowe’s outdoor garden center in Owatonna, Minn.

After wildlife officials were notified, the area was cordoned off, because the ducks are federally protected and the nest cannot be relocated until the eggs hatch.

A hungry dog in Naperville, Ill., started a house fire when she tried to get her paws on some cold pizza left lying on her owner’s kitchen stove. The pooch inadvertently turned on a burner when she attempted to leap onto the stove top.

Firefighters, alerted by a neighbor, saved the dog, but the pizza was history.

Police in Grand Chute, Wis., arrested a man who tried to sell his 18-month-old daughter to a couple for $7,000.

According to the local police chief, “He was having trouble raising the child alone and wanted to use the money for some home remodeling.”

We’ve all heard of snow-day school closings, but how about a sunny-day closing?

That’s what administrators declared at Bellingham Christian School in Bellingham, Wash., earlier this week. All calls to the school were answered with a recorded messages: Classes canceled due to nice weather.

He said he killed her because she was nagging him to get a job.

And he cut up and grilled her body because “I was at a loss about what to with it.”
