Joshua Beury of Jim Thorpe, Pa., was drunk when he showed up in court for sentencing on a DWI charge, and admitted that he routinely drinks 12 beers a day “and then some.”

The judge was not surprised or amused. A day earlier, Beury had been in the same court to face charges stemming from a car crash in which his blood-alcohol level registered 0.17, about twice the legal limit.

He was sentenced to up to six months in jail in both cases. That should give him time to sober up – or build up a real thirst.

Meowch. A curious stray kitten slipped through a hole in the glove compartment of an SUV in Rockaway Township, N.J., and got stuck behind the dashboard.

When the SUV owner tried to lure it out with food, the frightened feline crawled deeper into the dash.

That’s when a local veterinarian came to the rescue. He injected the kitty with an anesthetic, pulled it out unharmed, and somehow left the dashboard intact.

A Mexican woman lost 11 pounds crossing the border into the United States at Laredo, Texas. That’s how much heroin the feds found sewn into girdles she had strapped to her waist, thighs and calves.

Officials said the woman, who was crossing the border on foot, was stopped because her clothing looked strange – dopey, you might say.

A man in Gliwice, Poland, had his cancerous tongue removed and replaced with tissue taken from his buttocks.

“The new tongue is alive and well-supplied with blood and the patient is doing well,” his doctor reported. Sure, but we’ll bet the poor guy is the butt of some jokes.

An Israeli cop tailing a suspected underworld figure got a little too close for comfort. He crashed into the man’s vehicle.

Officials said the cop dozed off behind the wheel and accidentally slammed into the rear of the suspect’s car in the southern city of Ashkelon.

The suspected mobster was slightly injured.
