A middle-aged Illinois man, accused of failing to pay for his pedicures, led officers on a foot chase before he was brought to heel.
Marshall Wolbers, 56, of Lake Bluff, has been charged with theft of services, police said.

Philadelphians may soon have a new bounce in their steps.
A city official has put forth the environmentally friendly idea of making the city’s sidewalks out of rubber from recycled tires. They wouldn’t crack and would last longer than concrete, argues City Councilman Jim Kenney.
He also says rubber sidewalks would reduce the number of slip-and-fall accidents and lawsuits.

Most folks worry about hitting a deer while driving – but not while skiing.
A Maine doctor learned the hard way that hitting a deer on the slopes is a real concern. Luckily, Ray Stone was unhurt – as was the deer – after the collision on Haulbeck Trail.
“I just never saw this deer coming,” Stone said. “I was going pretty quick . . . and all of a sudden, I just got knocked off my feet and I was falling.”

An Israeli had has built an air-conditioner into his daughter’s stroller to help beat the heat.
“At first, I was trying to cool her off with a hand-held fan. Then I thought of a much simpler idea – a little air conditioner,” said Ofir Ben Aharon.
He plans to market the battery-operated machine in the United States and Europe.

Professional wedding planners have been around for a while, but in China, there are now professional bridesmaids.
Xu Lisha, who has hired herself out as a bridesmaid three times, is launching a company to provide professional help to smooth over problems that come up during a wedding.
“As positions like wedding host, camera person and makeup artist have been professionalized, the same goes for bridesmaids,” Xu said.
