WEIRD BUT TRUE
There are newspaper typos, and then there are out-and-out, red-faced, “D’oh!” misspellings.
The Valley News in New Hampshire misspelled its own name on its front page – with its masthead Monday appearing as “Valley Newss.”
In a subsequent editor’s note, the paper said, “Given that we routinely call on other institutions to hold themselves accountable for their mistakes, let us say for the record: We sure feel silly.”

A Florida cop was suspended after filing overtime for sitting around the office viewing porn on a city-owned computer.
St. Petersburg Detective William Burris was suspended for 45 days.

This might be called death by idiocy.
A Mississippi man was fatally burned after breaking into a bar, trying to cook food in the kitchen and setting the building on fire. Robert Davis sustained severe burns and died two days later.

It’s a true Mown-A-Lisa.
An art-obsessed gardener in England had the image of the Mona Lisa mown into her lawn.
It took two days to replicate the Leonardo da Vinci masterpiece in the grass, using a small lawnmower and hand clippers.
Of course, the off-the-beaten-path artwork can be appreciated only from an aircraft, and in a few weeks it’ll be gone.

Speaking of art, here’s a mammoth painting being put to good use.
Croatian artist Djuro Siroglavic set a Guinness record by painting a canvas piece, “The Wave,” 4 miles long and 7 feet wide, and weighing 6 tons.
Now he’s decided to chop it into pieces and sell them off to benefit children’s charities.
“It was hard to find a gallery that could display it,” he said. “And I didn’t want it to sit around somewhere gathering dust.”
