A community college in St. Louis brewed one of the world’s most expensive cups of coffee — costing more than $140,000.

Someone rigged a coffee maker to a faucet in a photo lab at St. Louis Community College and accidentally left the water running. The oversight ruptured a water line and flooded 10,000 gallons of water down four floors.

The college’s board of trustees is being asked to approve a $143,494 contract with a disaster-recovery company.

A 91-year-old man in Lake Worth, Fla., jumped out of bed naked and held an intruder at gunpoint until deputies arrived. Robert E. Thompson woke up recently after a would-be burglar climbed his backyard fence and was met by his charging dog.

Thompson heard the commotion, grabbed his .38-caliber revolver, phoned police and held the intruder at bay without ever getting dressed.
