Thomas Scott Vandegrift said he has a burping problem due to acid reflux. The alleged beating took place after he’d been thrown in the clink on a DWI charge.

A man accidentally shot himself in the leg as he walked out of a Jupiter, Fla., gun shop.
He had gone in looking for batteries to use on the laser sight for a small handgun.
When he got out to his car, the gun went off and fired a bullet into his leg.

An Indiana man who allegedly stole a backhoe from a construction yard led cops on a slow-mo chase down a highway.
Robert Hull tried to get away by zigzagging across the road, but cops were able to pull up next to him and climb aboard.
Naturally, Hull showed signs of intoxication.

A Hong Kong woman was killed as she walked down the street when she was struck by an elderly woman who fell from a window as she took in her laundry.
The 74-year-old woman, who plunged 27 stories, was also killed. Oddly, the woman on the ground was recently widowed when a falling crane killed her husband as he walked down a street.

Police in Japan were stunned when they stopped an elderly woman with dementia pushing a shopping cart — and found $800,000 in cash among her belongings.
The officers tracked down the 80-year-old’s relatives, who told them she had never trusted banks, so always kept her savings with her.
