A runaway tire hopped the median of a New Jersey highway and smashed into the front of an off-duty cop’s SUV — a terrifying, freak incident captured on camera.

In video posted to Instagram on Friday, the tire is seen rolling fast enough on Route 440 in Edison to keep up with a driver in the left lane, then hopping the median and continuing to roll for a few seconds before coming down on the other side.

“Bruhhhhh ever seen death rolling,” the person posting the footage captioned the video, which has been viewed more than 86,000 times.

“What the f—,” someone says on the video — before the tire smashes into a black Jeep driven by a Piscataway, NJ, police officer.

The off-duty officer, John Rice, told ABC 7 that all he was thinking about were his wife and kids, who were in another car in front of his on the highway at the time.

He said he recalled thinking, “Please don’t hit her.”

Rice did not return requests for comment from The Post on Monday.
