No two zebra’s stripes are exactly alike, but one zebra is so unique he has barely any.

German photographer Martina Meyer, 56, was visiting Etosha National Park in Nambia last month when she snapped the zebra with an entrirely black torso.

Meyer was informed that the zebra is a local celebrity and that tourists come far and wide to gaze at its ebony hide.

Meyer was so shocked by the animal’s appearance she researched what exactly could be causing it to lack stripes.

“I had to Google it afterwards and that suggested that the zebra had melanism,” Meyer told Mercury Press.

Melanism — the opposite of albinism — is caused by a build of of dark pigmented melanin in the skin.

“The zebra got a lot of attention in Namibia and it certainly got a lot of attention when I shared it online too,” said Meyer.
