Want to watch an IMAX movie at home? It’ll cost you at least $400,000.
On Tuesday, the film company announced its line of private home theaters. Its entry-level model “Palais” offers a 10-foot tall screen, 2D/3D projectors, IMAX sound system and media playback system for a screening room featuring up to 18 seats — and costs about $400,000, Bloomberg reports.
Unlike traditional movie room, IMAX uses film stock that’s twice as big for an extremely clear viewing experience.
If you want to download and play new IMAX releases — the same movies playing at the local multiplex — that will cost you another $10,000 for a set-top box, plus rental fees for each movie. Super-rich movie buffs can drop $1 million for its “Platinum” model with seating for up to 40 people.
Mere mortals, however, will have to keep forking over at least $20 to see the next IMAX blockbuster.
