Anna Wintour’s stone-cold heart just thawed a bit.
The Condé Nast giant passed out tights with cartoon foxes on them to guests attending a welcome party for the new Vanity Fair editor in chief Radhika Jones after the company was slammed for allegedly dissing the outfit that Jones wore.
“Welcoming the brilliant new editor of @vanityfair, Radhika Jones. And yes, those are fox tights in everyone’s hands, courtesy of Anna Wintour,” Glamour Editor Cindi Leive posted on Instagram.
Jones was slammed back in November by Women’s Wear Daily for wearing a navy shift dress and a pair of similar tights that staffers were purportedly “aghast” over.
“I’m not sure if I should include a new pair of tights in her welcome basket,” a Condé Nast fashion editor allegedly sneered, according to WWD.
The outfit choice even got Jones one of Wintour’s “trademark stoic glares.”
When the story about Jones’ style picks came out, staffers at Condé Nast were slammed in the comments section of the story, saying their behavior was childish.
“The biggest problem for women in the workplace is……WOMEN! Nasty, condescending, mean, haughty, judgmental,” one reader commented, according to the Daily Mail.
Vogue’s director of communications condemned WWD for writing the article, saying women shouldn’t put down other women.
“The historical significance of Radhika Jones’ appointment at Vanity Fair should not be lost. First person of color to be named EIC at VF in their history, first Indian-American woman to be named EIC of a major magazine publication in history. Wow.” Zara Rahim tweeted on Nov. 13, according to the Daily Mail.
Other fashion industry folk defended Jones and slammed Condé’s mean-girl culture, including “Clio” from Splinter News.
“if I ever become editor of vanity fair im going to wear a garbage bag full of hamburgers and offer one to anna wintour and then say ‘sike’ and drop it on the floor,” the writer joked in a tweet.
