Veteran newsman Michael Oreskes was tapped to be the new senior vice president and editorial director of NPR.

He is currently the vice president and senior managing editor of the Associated Press, where he has been since 2008.

Oreskes ran the International Herald Tribune in Paris from 2005 to 2008 and was deputy managing editor/assistant managing editor of the New York Times from 2001 to 2005.
