HBO “Real Time” host Bill Maher is warning viewers about the dangers of socialist Zohran Mamdani being elected NYC’s next mayor, declaring there’s never been anyone so far left in such a prime position to lead America’s largest city.
“There’s a lot of opposition [to Mamdani] because we’ve never had someone this radical,” the late-night funnyman warned Friday.
“Some of the things he says, you know he quotes Marxists, ‘each according to their need.’ I mean, that’s straight up Communism.”
Maher was responding to guest panelist Rep. Jason Crow (D-Colo.), who claimed the Democratic mayoral frontrunner is being tagged as a “contrived villain or boogeyman” by Republicans to scare voters.
Rep. Jason Crow maintained that a “boogeyman” like Mamdani comes around every election cycle. Ron Sachs – CNP for NY Post“They always try to create a villain is my point,” he said. “They always try to create some boogeyman or bogeywoman.”
“He’s not contrived,” Maher fired back. “He’s gonna be the mayor of New York.”
“We never quite had a guy like this,” he added.
Columnist James Kirchick, who was also Maher’s guest, did not hesitate to chime in about the criticism Mamdani has received from conservatives.
“Everything that the crazy far-right alleged about [ex-President Barack] Obama – wasn’t born in America, Islamist, socialist, antisemite, hates America, it’s all true about this guy [Mamdani],” Kirchick said.
He went on to describe what he finds the “most appalling” about Mamdani.
“He defends the expression ‘globalize the intifada,’ which explicitly means – and I don’t wanna hear anyone deny this – it means kill Jews whenever and wherever you can find them,” Kirchick added.
In July, the New York Times reported that Mamdani told a group of business leaders he would not use the phrase “globalize the intifada,” and he would “discourage” others from using it.
Roughly 30% of New York City voters support Mamdani’s refusal to condemn the phrase “globalize the intifada” and his backing of the anti-Israel boycott movement, according to survey last month by the American Pulse polling firm
Mamdani won the Democratic primary for mayor of New York City. LP MediaMaher on Friday also condemned college campuses for so many younger Americans being woke — and all but defended President Trump’s push to cut federal funding to schools unless they comply with his political ideology.
“Academia needed a hot poker up the a–,” he said.
“I am not saying not everything the way he’s doing it of course it is the right way — to defund scientific rsearch is not the way to do it,” Maher said before calling universities “indoctrination factories. There’s absolutely no diversity of thought.”
“Well, you don’t have to be Donald Trump to think that there’s been something rotten on campuses for quite a long time,” he added.
“Why do you think they erupted, so many of them, in cheers for what happened on Oct. 7th?” he said, referring to Hamas’ 2023 terror attack on Israel.
“Why do you have professors coming out there and saying they were exhilarated by this mass massacre of people? That didn’t happen overnight.”
