Daily News owner Mort Zuckerman popped by the lobby of 21st Century Fox and News Corp. enroute to a TV appearance on a Fox News Channel show — but Zuckerman was not too chatty when approached by Media Ink.
Asked if he could give a timetable for a possible sale of his Daily News, he said, “All I can give you is 50 cents to buy The Post.”
When informed that the paper’s price on weekdays has been $1 for the past year — less than the $1.25 price for his sleepy tabloid — he said, “That’s right. And all I am giving you is 50 cents.”
When asked how many parties had expressed interest, he declined to comment.
Asked if there was a front runner, he turned to a woman standing to his right and said, “She is the front runner.”
Sources have said that the process is likely to be a “long, slow slog.”
One source said it would be June at the earliest before Zuckerman would get close to a resolution on his attempt to sell the money-losing paper.
John Catsimatidis, the grocery store mogul, is currently the only known person kicking the tires at Zuckerman’s paper.
