Jacob “Jack” Messing, father of former longtime New York Post law enforcement reporter Philip Messing, passed away Thursday morning at his home in Coney Island. He was 105 and days short of his July 8 birthday.
Jack was a retired New York City public accountant of 40 years, working for the Comptroller’s Office, and a disabled WWII veteran, having served stateside in the Army.
He was active well into old age, learning to use an iPad at age 100, and giving up driving only after Hurricane Sandy in 2012.
He is survived by his wife, Selma, 96, another son, Richard, granddaughter Lianna and great-grandson Dov.
