More than 100 top executives and staffers from the old Time Inc. will gather for an “Irish wake” for the storied publishing name on Thursday night at a bar in Midtown.
The shindig is the brainchild of former Entertainment Weekly president David Morris — now at CBS — who was looking to recall old times with about 20 friends and colleagues at Rosie O’Grady’s, a saloon around the corner from the old Time & Life Building near Rockefeller Center.
“We just wanted to raise a glass and toast a great American publishing company,” he said.
But word of mouth spread through the ranks of the company that faded to black last month, when Meredith, the Iowa-based owner of Midwestern-flavored titles like Better Homes & Gardens, took over the owner of Time, People, Sports Illustrated , Fortune, In Style and others.
With that deal, the Time Inc. name disappeared from the corporate lexicon.
Among those expected to be on hand: Michael Kligensmith, now the publisher of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune; David Geithner, chief financial officer of Condé Nast; Michael Federle, president of Forbes Media; John Squires, one time piped as an heir apparent to succeed Ann Moore; and Nora McAniff.
Also on hand: Randall Rothenberg, who had a cup of coffee there and is now running the Interactive Advertising Bureau; former presidents and publishers of Time magazine including Ed McCarrick and Bruce Hallet; as well as some of the storied PR mavens including Nancy Valentino, now at Julien’s Auction house.
Most of the attendees were drawn from the business side although a smattering of former top editors are also expected.
