The Guardian US journalists have voted unanimously to unionize and join the News Guild in a 45-0 vote that wrapped up Wednesday.
The US operation was launched in 2011.
“There was not a lot of anger involved,” said Bernard Lunzer, president of The Newspaper Guild-Communications Workers of America. “It’s a fairly progressive employer.”
“They know their compatriots across the water are represented by the National Union of Journalists,” he added.
Amanda Holpuch, a staff journalist who is a member of the organizing committee in New York, said the process was “very cooperative” with management.
“It’s very much in line with the Guardian’s culture,” she said.
