NBC’s airing of the Super Bowl followed by the Winter Olympics five days later last month did wonders for the ratings — but don’t expect a repeat.

For the first time ever, the Winter Olympics will be competing with Super Bowl Sunday in 2022.

The NFL’s big game is set to play out in Los Angeles on Feb. 6, 2022, two days after the XXIV Olympics kick off in Beijing.

It’s CBS’ turn for the Super Bowl, while NBC retains the Olympics — but the networks believe the scheduling snafu, which will divide viewers and hamper ratings, isn’t theirs to fix.

“Ask the NFL and the International Olympic Committee,” a TV exec said. “They set the dates.” Neither of those organizations cared to comment, however, when our Richard Morgan asked which one of them would blink.

Their failure to reschedule could ruin a good thing. NBC’s prime-time viewership in the coveted 18-to-49 demo soared by 324 percent during their Super Bowl-Olympics twofer, while ABC, CBS and Fox all posted double-digit declines, according to a report from research firm MoffettNathanson.
