The gossip magazine InTouch Weekly published an article that claimed Matt Lauer was quitting the “Today” show — just before the anchor was fired over a sexual harassment scandal.

The poorly-timed article is on the newsstands and claims that Lauer is leaving the show because he is “done trying” to make things work, according to BuzzFeed.

The story cited a conflict with co-anchor and Fox News alum Megyn Kelly as contributing to Lauer’s frustration.

But Lauer was already out of a job as the magazine was being sold.

The veteran anchor was fired on Tuesday due to sexual misconduct allegations.
