Hackers infiltrated a New York Times Twitter feed Sunday to claim that Russia was about to attack the United States.
“BREAKING: leaked statement from Vladimir Putin says: Russia will attack the United States with Missiles,” the fake news account said.
The hacker group OurMine followed up with another tweet claiming responsibility for the security breach.
The red-faced Gray Lady yanked down the tweets, which were posted about 9:40 a.m., around 20 minutes later and apologized to followers.
“We deleted a series of tweets published from this account earlier today without our authorization. We are investigating the situation,” the NYT Video Twitter feed said.
