Star political journo Olivia Nuzzi has hired the high-powered DC lawyer who previously repped a Matt Lauer accuser as the fallout from her tryst with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. escalates.

Nuzzi, 31, has retained attorney Ari Wilkenfeld, who can cost $800-per-hour, for her messy legal battle with her ex Ryan Lizza, 50, the Daily Beast reported on Monday.

Wilkenfeld — a big name in Washington employment law — is a major upgrade from her previous counsel, a Maryland personal injury attorney.

Wilkenfeld’s employer, Alan Lescht, can charge up to $5,000 in commencement fees with a lawyer like Wilkenfeld costing about $800 per hour, according to the outlet.

Wilkenfeld gained notoriety when he represented an NBC employee whose sexual misconduct accusations against Lauer led to the anchor’s ouster from TODAY in 2017.

Nuzzi is now fighting to keep her court battle against Lizza, her ex-fiancé, behind closed doors after the two exchanged fiery claims about each other in recent weeks.

Lizza, a Politico correspondent who worked on the Playbook newsletter before taking a leave of absence, is calling on the legal proceeding to be open to the public, the outlet reported.

“Mr. Lizza wants his facts to be on the public record, has nothing to hide, and respectfully requests that this Court deny Ms. Nuzzi’s motion to seal,” newly filed papers state.

Nuzzi’s world was upended last month when it came out she had a sexting relationship with RFK Jr. after interviewing the former presidential candidate for a profile in November 2023.

Her legal war with Lizza started late last month when she successfully requested a no-contact order against Lizza. She accused her ex of harassing and blackmailing her for months, including allegations he was behind exposing her affair with RFK.

Lizza has denied those claims and fired back in a filing two weeks later that argued Nuzzi was a heartbroken lover who wanted to save their relationship after he dumped over the summer.   

Lizza also claimed Nuzzi described Kennedy as a “sex-addict” who told her he wanted to “possess,” “control,” and “impregnate her.”

Nuzzi’s camp labeled Lizza’s accusations “full of salacious and irrelevant claims that we will not dignify with a response.”

RFK, who is married to actress Cheryl Hines, has denied a relationship with Nuzzi.

Lizza’s legal team argued this week that Nuzzi originally didn’t bother to keep her explosive claims private until Lizza hit back with his own counter-filing.

“Ms. Nuzzi cannot provide and discuss her Petition and its allegations with news organizations and then seek to seal the very record she created so as to silence Mr. Lizza in this litigation,” the court filing asserts, per the Daily Beast.  

Lizza is using the legal services of well-known lawyer Bob Barnett and Simon Latcovich. Each are partners at Williams & Connolly, which was hired by former President Bill Clinton during his impeachment trial, the outlet reported.

Nuzzi and New York mag announced last week the two sides were parting ways though the publication found no evidence of bias in any of her reporting during the 2024 campaign.
