The Kelly Gang Inc. is moving its annual charity fundraiser from its original March 12 date to the evening of March 24 at media hotspot Michael’s Restaurant.
“We picked the original date back in September but then learned it was going to conflict with the National Magazine Awards and Irish America Magazine’s annual event,” said Kelly Gang president Ed Kelly. “We’re now looking at our event as a great St. Patrick’s Day ‘after party’,” he said.
This year’s charity beneficiary is the Rory Staunton Foundation for Sepsis Prevention, named after a 12-year-old boy from Queens who scraped his elbow in a gym fall and died four days later from a sepsis infection that was not detected in time.
The Foundation was started by his parents, Ciaran and Orlaith Staunton, who are pushing for changes in hospital protocols nationally and education on the local school level.
