Two reasons the Mets rid themselves of Tony Bernazard:

1. They were concerned that his conduct would be such a continuing story that it would detract from their need to concentrate on re-tooling the team for next year.

2. They were concerned that no matter how thorough their investigation that if new information leaked about further bad behavior by Bernazard, it would make them look inept while also continuing to draw focus away from improving the product on the field.
