If the cyst is diagnosed as minor, then Rodriguez faces the conundrum of whether to play in the WBC or not. Once Rodriguez becomes an injured player, it transfers to the team’s choice whether the player is allowed to participate in the tournament or not. Thus the Yanks will have to decide whether to put A-Rod at risk or not. They will have to determine is it better for his head and for the mindset of an entire organization for him to be away at the WBC for a while or is it too much of a physical risk to have the sport’s most expensive player away from the Yankees’ medical care.
