Add another name to the group that saved the 9/11 Mike Piazza jersey.
In addition to Anthony Scaramucci, Tony Lauto and an anonymous female business partner, Jim McCann of 1-800-Flowers is part of the group that paid $365,000 for the jersey, The Post has learned.
Vince Piazza told The Post on Friday that he is “thrilled” the jersey was purchased by the group, saying, “They really stepped up. Mike and I are so happy and thankful for what they have done.”
The jersey will be displayed at Citi Field and will travel to Cooperstown this summer when Piazza is inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame on July 24. In addition, the 9/11 Memorial Museum will display the jersey, though final details of the plan still are to be worked out.
The Mets, who sold the jersey to a collector three years ago, said Friday in a statement: “We acknowledge that we made a mistake, and have instituted a new process with internal controls to prevent something like this from happening again in the future.”
