So, what did is the fall out from Alex Rodriguez admitting what we all knew? How does A-Rod telling the world that his relationship with Derek Jeter isnât what it used to be affect the Yankees?
You can look at it any way you want _ and when it comes to A-Rod _ many people will view it differently because he attracts plenty of opinions.
Yet, one of the signs you can take from yesterdayâs comments is that A-Rod is no longer walking on eggshells around the Yankees. After three years in pinstripes it appears A-Rod has decided he is going to say what he feels and forget about how his words are perceived. Donât expect him to start ripping Joe Torre, his teammates or the front office. But this could be a sign that A-Rod is more comfortable with himself in a universe that has never fully embraced him.
A-Rod called it a âWorking Relationship.ââ Thatâs fine for the Yankees, who like a lot of teams, donât require players love each other. So what that Jeter and A-Rod donât go to dinner or the China Club? At one point A-Rod wanted Jeter to be a god parent of his children. Now that wonât happen? Big deal. Does that make the left side of the Yankeesâ infield worse?
A friend of each described them this way and itâs about as perfect description as you can get. Jeter is Marlon Brando. He likes seeing his name in the paper but shuns the spotlight off the field. A-Rod is Jack Nicholson. He walks down Second Ave and wants everybody to look at him.
