When a heavy rain invaded Yankee Stadium at 3 o’clock Alex Rodriguez had teased a crowd of 47,890 three times and didn’t deliver his 600th homer.

With 599 home runs Rodriguez is on the verge of being only the seventh player in history to reach 600.

Leading off the second inning Rodriguez broke his bat on Sean O’Sullivan’s first pitch and grounded out. In the four-run third he ripped an RBI double and ended the fifth with Derek Jeter on second with a ground out.

With one out in the top of the sixth, rain halted play with the Yankees leading, 5-3.
