MOOSIC, Pa. – Alex Rodriguez made it through his first rehab game with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre Tuesday night, moving him one step closer to rejoining the Yankees.

Rodriguez, rehabbing from right knee surgery on July 11, went 1-for-3 with a single, and played six innings at third base for SWB against the Durham Bulls. If everything goes well in his second rehab game Wednesday night, he is set to rejoin the Yankees Thursday in Minnesota.

In his first at-bat, Rodriguez lined a 1-0 pitch down the right field line with two outs in the first, and thought briefly about turning into a double. That nearly cost him when, as he leisurely returned to first, he was nearly picked off by Durham second baseman Ray Olmedo.

Rodriguez drove the first pitch he saw from Durham starter Matt Torra deep to left-center field in his second at-bat, only to be robbed of a double thanks to a nice running catch by Durham center fielder Brandon Guyer. He popped up to Olmedo with nobody out and a runner on second in the sixth in his final at-bat.

Rodriguez made the play on the only ball hit to him in fair territory, fielding Matt Carson’s grounder to third and stepping on the bag to for a force out to end the top of the fourth inning. But Rodriguez missed a pair of foul pop-ups down the left field line.

The first came with one out in the top of the fourth, when Rodriguez tried to make a difficult over the shoulder catch with his back to home plate on a ball hit by Stephen Vogt. The second came with two outs and the bases loaded in the top of the fifth, when Rodriguez overran another pop-up – this one closer to the stands – and missed the ball when he tried to reach back and make the catch.

Rodriguez, who has been out since July 7, was the designated hitter in rehab games for High-A Tampa on Friday and Saturday, going 2-for-6, including a home run in his first at-bat on Friday night, before playing third in a simulated game on Sunday.
