PHOENIX — Alex Rodriguez and Jorge Posada were in the Yankees lineup Tuesday, playing back-to-back nights in the field vs. the Diamondbacks.
With no DH available in the NL park, Rodriguez was at third base and Posada behind the plate as both continue to return from injuries.
Rodriguez (hip) started action with eight homers, one since June 3, two since May 20.
“I could hit five or six homers in a week, I am not worried,’’ Rodriguez said. “I will have my normal numbers at the end of the year.’’
In 14 full big-league seasons, Rodriguez has averaged 41.3 homers, and that includes the 30 he hit last year when he missed the first five weeks of the season.
With 92 games remaining and a groin/hip flexor problem he is dealing with, Rodriguez needs 33 homers the rest of the way to get to 41.
The big question is how much the groin/hip flexor problem is affecting him. He says it’s improving every day.
“His at-bats were good (Monday night), I sense he is getting comfortable,’’ Joe Girardi said of Rodriguez, who is 3-for-22 (.136) with two extra base hits (doubles) since returning June 16 from a four-game absence.
The Yankees used the identical top eight in the lineup as in their 10-4 loss Monday, with Andy Pettitte the starting pitcher.
