If Kei Igawa meets the prediction Alex Rodriguez made yesterday the Yankees will be very happy with their $46 million investment. After one batting practice session against him Alex Rodriguez believes Kei Igawa can 15 games for the Yankees this season.
If A-Rod is correct the Yankees will have done very well for the $46 million they invested in the 27-year-old lefty from Japan.
âI was very impressed with the way he threw the ball,ââ A-Rod said. âHe has it in him to win 15 games if not more.ââ
Walking around Igawa doesnât look like a $46 million investment. His torso is small compared to thick legs. However many teams wanted him for the back of the rotation but couldnât afford the $26 million posting bid that secured his services. The Yankees gave him a five-year deal worth $20 million.
They hope he can provide production from the fourth or fifth spot in the rotation. A-Rod believes there is more than that to come.
âHe is sneaking on his fastball,ââ A-Rod said of the 91-mph heater. âThe ball looks comfortable coming out of his hand but it gets on you quicker than you think.
Asked if Igawa reminds him of any pitcher in the big leagues, A-Rod said Igawaâs velocity sets him apart.
âHe throws harder than most lefties,ââ A-Rod said. âHarder than (Jamie) Moyer and (Tom) Glavine. His uniqueness will help him.ââ
