Alex Rodriguez faced Andy Pettitte in a simulated game at Yankee Stadium this morning and both injured players look to be on their way to a quick return.
“I felt good,” Rodriguez said, according to ESPN.com. “[Pettitte] looked great. I’m glad I don’t have to face him every day.”
Pettitte threw 50 pain-free pitches testing his injured groin, and Rodriguez was able to run down the first-base line testing his injured calf.
Rodriguez is eligible to come off the disabled list Sunday.
“We’ll see how he feels [Sunday] morning and then make our decision,” Joe Girardi said.
The Yankees have not said if or when Pettitte will make a minor-league start before rejoining the team.
Yankees great Reggie Jackson served as the home-plate umpire, according to the report.
