The Yankees are spending plenty of dollars this offseason.

They just weren’t earmarked for Didi Gregorius.

The shortstop seemed to know as much, saying Monday during his introductory Phillies press conference that Yankees general manager Brian Cashman “made it loud and clear that [Gerrit] Cole was their priority.”

Cole landing a record nine-year, $324 million contract with the Yankees meant manager Aaron Boone will have a new full-time starting shortstop next season.

“Didi’s been a great player for us and a great Yankee,” Boone told NJ Advance Media at an elementary school in New Jersey. “Another two-way player. Unfortunately, sometimes you can’t keep everyone.”

Gregorius had manned shortstop for the Yankees for the last five years, taking over for the retired Derek Jeter and handling it as well as anybody could.

But Gregorius was forced to undergo Tommy John surgery last year, perhaps ruining his shot at an early extension, and missed half of the 2019 season. When he came back — after Gleyber Torres, who will move to shortstop full-time next season, filled in there temporarily — Gregorius struggled at times and hit only .238 with a .718 OPS.

It led to him signing a one-year, $14 million contact with the Phillies that could allow him to rebuild his value.

“One of the hard parts of the job is sometimes really good players and people leave and go to another team,” Boone said. “It’s part of it. Didi is one of those guys. Not only a great player but a guy that was really popular with our team and amongst our teammates. He’s on to Philly now, where I know he’s going to do great. We wish him well, and we’re glad he’s in the other league. As I told him the other day, hopefully we’ll meet in October (in the World Series).”
