As a kid from Brooklyn, Adam Ottavino made many trips to Yankee Stadium for Opening Day.

The one he remembers best was the 1997 Yankees’ home opener and includes a future teammate with the Rockies.

“Me and a friend were sitting near the third-base line and the Yankees were playing the A’s and Jason Giambi was in left field and we were heckling him,’’ Ottavino recalled Wednesday before the Yankees worked out ahead of Thursday’s Opening Day game against the Orioles at Yankee Stadium.

And what were they yelling at Giambi?

“Giambi sucks,” said Ottavino, who signed as a free agent to leave Colorado and bolster a bullpen that is without Dellin Betances for the start of the season.

“I played with him later [in Colorado] and I told him,’’ Ottavino said. “He enjoyed it.’’

Giambi, a Yankee from 2002-08, didn’t play left field after 1997 and was a first baseman/DH for the Yankees.

Remember when the Yankees and Masahiro Tanaka were criticized for not having the pitcher undergo Tommy John surgery when a small tear was found in his right elbow during the 2014 season, his first in the majors?

Five years after deciding rehab was better than the knife, Tanaka said the issue is dead.

“It was completely out of my mind,’’ Tanaka said when asked about his elbow. “The elbow is fine and I am ready to go into the season.’’

Aaron Boone said center fielder and leadoff hitter Aaron Hicks “is moving in the right direction and through the pain that was holding him back.’’

Hicks is on the injured list with a lower-back problem that has been treated with two cortisone injections. He is not participating in baseball activities. …

Mariano Rivera will throw out the first pitch on Thursday.

Zack Britton might not require a program to identify everyone on the Orioles’ roster who will face the Yankees on Thursday in the first game of the season, but since he was part of the 2014 and 2016 playoff teams in Baltimore he was asked if it was sad to see how far the Orioles have fallen. They lost 115 games a year ago and might be in line to match that this season. The Orioles are carrying a surprisingly high three Rule 5 players on their 25-man roster.

“Not now, when I first came over,’’ said Britton, who joined the Yankees in a late July deal a year ago and returned as a free agent this past winter. “There were a lot of good times with the staff and the coaches. I know how hard work they put in and some don’t have jobs this year.’’
