OK, let’s talk some nightmare scenarios.

Right now, about an hour before game time, the rain has subdued after a burst of hard stuff.

Game 2 could definitely be played in this, but the forecast calls for rain to worsen, especially after 11 p.m.

Here is one scary thought: the starters, A.J. Burnett and Joe Saunders, are not exactly premier strike throwers, and neither is a particularly quick worker.

And remember that postseason games now must – by rule – be played to conclusion. So even if, say, the Yankees are winning 10-1 in the eighth inning and rain makes it just plain impossible to conclude tonight, we must come back tomorrow to finish. And the weather tomorrow is not supposed to be great.

So can you imagine sitting around for a few days trying to play the last few outs of a blowout?

One league official actually wondered if – in that scenario – it might be shrewd to move the conclusion of a game to Anaheim, but with the Yankees playing on as the home team. It is highly doubtful that this would occur. But you can see how even major league executives are playing out worst-case scenarios with all the potential rain in the forecast.
