Better to be lucky than good, right, Spencer Strider?
The Mets destroyed the Braves over the weekend at Citi Field, taking four of five and increasing their NL East lead to 6.5 games. Atlanta hurler Strider, along with tons of Braves fans, were good for making excuses for their losses. Instead, they should probably just understand that the Mets are a better baseball team than the Braves. Plain and simple.
Jacob deGrom showed why he’s the best pitcher on the planet. Max Scherzer showed us why he’s on his way to the Baseball Hall of Fame when his career ends. The Mets proved they are the best team in the division and are right there as one of the best in baseball.
To discuss the big series win in Queens, we bring you a new episode of the “Amazin’ But True” podcast with Nelson Figueroa and me. Mets 1969 World Series champion outfielder Cleon Jones joined us on the second half of the show.
‘Amazin’ But True’ Podcast Opening Segment with Jake Brown & Nelson Figueroa:
- STATEMENT SERIES WIN: Mets take four of five and make a statement against the Braves. A 6.5-game lead is huge. It’s not over yet, but the Mets showed the Braves why they are the best team in the NL East.
- CRYING BRAVES FANS: Spencer Strider saying the Mets had some “lucky” hits. Braves fans on Twitter being sore losers. Mets are the team to beat and Braves fans need to accept they just are not as good as the Mets.
- DEGROMINATION: deGrom was unhittable Sunday. It was a spectacle to watch at Citi Field. His stuff is filthy and he looks as good as ever. If he keeps this up and can stay on the field, the Mets will be a force in October.
- TRADE DEADLINE MOVES: Billy Eppler looking like a genius now with his new DH trio of Daniel Vogelbach, Tyler Naquin and Darin Ruf. Mets will finally get to face Noah Syndergaard over the weekend against the Phillies at Citi Field.
Cleon Jones Interview: 1969 Mets World Series champion, Mets outfielder (1963-1975)
- 1969 METS VS. 2022 METS: Cleon explains why this 2022 Mets team reminds him of his 1969 Mets.
- NEW BOOK: Why you should get his new book “Coming Home: My Amazin’ Life with the New York Mets.”
