The Mets have won 17 of their last 20 games. They refuse to lose a series to a team within the NL East. Since July 1, their starters are pitching at a historic level. They gave up just one earned run all weekend against the third-place Phillies.
Braves hurler Spencer Strider can call it lucky… I’ll just call it good. This team is playing winning baseball and it’s fun to watch.
Adding to the fun has been watching Edwin Diaz strike out almost every batter he faces. The best part is his trot to the mound with “Narco” blasting at Citi Field. The song’s creators, Dutch duo Blasterjaxx, joined Nelson Figueroa and me on the newest episode of the “Amazin’ But True” podcast.
We also get reaction from Figgie on his return to the mound last week at 48 years old for the Staten Island FerryHawks.
Amazin’ But True’ Podcast Opening Segment with Jake Brown & Nelson Figueroa:
- METS DOMINANT ROTATION: Mets take two of three from the Phillies. Their rotation continues to dazzle, led by their one-two punch of Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer. Chris Bassitt took his no earned runs streak up to 24 innings. The Phillies had “Bad News Bears” moments defensively Sunday. The new guys just keep hitting for the Mets, led by Daniel Vogelbach.
- METS-BRAVES SERIES: Mets will want to hit Strider again on Monday. This is a huge four-game series, in which the Mets could potentially run away with the division with a sweep. Tough stretch of games ahead with the Braves, Phillies, Yankees and then the Dodgers later in August.
- FIGGIE RETURNS TO MOUND: Nelson threw 119 pitches last Tuesday for the Staten Island FerryHawks in their game in Gastonia. He gave up 10 runs (eight earned), along with 10 hits, but he did strike out four guys and went the distance in a seven-inning complete game. He breaks down how he, at 48, returned to pitch for the first time professionally in eight years.
Blasterjaxx Interview: “Narco” DJs Thom Jongkind, Idir Makhlaf
- EDWIN DIAZ: Have only talked a bit through DMs, but hope to meet him one day. They would love an autographed jersey from him. It is special to watch him run out to their song and hear the tremendous response from the crowd.
- NARCO: The song came out in 2017, but the streams have gone crazy this year thanks to Diaz. The song was originally going to be with a flute.
- COMING TO CITI FIELD: They hope to come with Timmy Trumpet to Citi Field to perform the song this year. There have been talks about it happening.
- TIMMY TRUMPET: Adding Timmy Trumpet made it epic. He’s a very cool guy and a tremendous trumpeter.
