The Mets continue finding new and magical ways to win ball games every day. Sunday was one of the more improbable, resilient wins we have seen all year.

Down 4-0, down 7-4, down 8-7… no problem. The Mets came back three times with a starting pitcher making his MLB debut, a reliever making his big league debut after working at a bank last year, Mark Canha hitting two clutch home runs and Edwin Diaz raising our blood pressure for one of the first times this season.

Oh yeah, and it’s the Subway Series the next two days and Mets Old Timers’ Day this weekend.

It’s a busy time in Mets land and a perfect time for a brand new episode of the “Amazin’ But True” podcast with Nelson Figueroa and me. We did a special crossover pod, bringing on Marc Luino and James Schiano, hosts of the Mets official podcast “Mets’d Up.” We also end the episode playing voicemails from a few of the Mets Old Timers who will be there Saturday, including John Franco, Ed Lynch and Glendon Rusch.

Amazin’ But True’ Podcast Opening Segment with Jake Brown & Nelson Figueroa:

  • CANHA CANHA/RESILIENT METS: He’s been an incredible signing. What a huge day for him Sunday in Philly. That was one of the more remarkable wins for the Mets in a season full of them. It was a big series win after the Braves lost, getting their lead to four games in the NL East. Edwin Diaz made everyone sweat, but showed he is human. He was able to still get out of the jam after giving up his first run since June 22. Buck Showalter with a veteran managerial move to go out there and talk to Diaz.
  • NATE FISHER, BANKER TO THE BIG LEAGUES: This Nate Fisher story is truly tremendous. From working at a bank in Omaha last year to tossing three scoreless innings in his MLB debut Sunday for the Mets. Commercial lending analyst in Nebraska to big league reliever in a pennant race for the New York Mets.
  • SUBWAY SERIES/OLD TIMER’S DAY: Yankees are reeling and Mets are sizzling. Mets set up nicely with Max Scherzer and Jacob deGrom pitching against a struggling Yankees offense. Old Timer’s Day will be very fun Saturday. We will be doing a live “Amazin’ But True” podcast at EBBS Brewing Co. next to the right field gate at Citi Field after the Mets-Rockies game around 10:30 p.m. Saturday.

Marc Luino & James Schiano Segment: Hosts of the “Mets’d Up” podcast

  • SUBWAY SERIES FEELING: Love the series. Could not have caught the Yankees at a better time than right now. They have been one of the worst teams in baseball the past month. Mets fans might take over Yankee Stadium. Lots of booing lately from Yankee fans. Mets fans have been packing opposing stadiums. A Mets fan even threw out the first pitch Saturday in Philly.
  • OLD TIMERS’ DAY BREAKDOWN: We go through the entire Old Timers’ Day roster and discuss which players we are most excited to see. Will we get a special David Wright guest appearance?
  • METS OLD TIMERS VOICEMAILS: We close the show hearing voicemails from John Franco, Ed Lynch and Glendon Rusch on their excitement going into Saturday’s game and what hitter they want to face.
