Saturday was a day to remember in Flushing. The Mets brought Old-Timers’ Day back, and it did not disappoint. Getting to see Mets greats from different decades and memorable teams over the years was truly special. For me, getting to be on the field watching guys I started with when I was a fan back in 2000 to the 2006 and 2015 teams, to the legends before I was born in 1969 and 1986 … I had to pinch myself. It felt like a dream come true seeing these guys in a Mets uniform again and getting to play on the field.

What a tremendous job by Steve and Alex Cohen, Jay Horwitz and the Mets organization putting together a day that no Mets fan will forget. On top of that, they retired Willie Mays’ No. 24, which was not announced to anybody prior. Truly magnificent. Mets history is being honored, and the Cohens are giving their flowers out to these legends while they are still with us.

To recap the memorable Mets Old-Timers’ Day, we bring you a special live “Amazin’ But True” podcast with Nelson Figueroa and me. We hosted the show from EBBS Brewing Co. following the festivities and the Mets’ 3-0 win over the Rockies in front of an audience. The episode includes clips from our chats with Billy Wagner, John Franco, Tim Teufel, Dwight Gooden and Glendon Rusch.

Amazin’ But True’ Podcast LIVE from EBBS Brewing Co. Citi Field after Old Timers’ Day with Jake Brown & Nelson Figueroa:

  • MEMORABLE OLD-TIMERS’ DAY: Tremendous job by Steve and Alex Cohen to bring back Old-Timers’ Day. A thrill for fans getting to see Mets from different decades brought back. Jay Horwitz deserves a lot of credit for getting all these players together. Benny Agbayani and Bartolo Colon got two of the biggest ovations of the day.
  • RETIRING WILLIE MAYS: No Met will wear No. 24 again. It was a special and surprising moment when the Mets retired Willie Mays’ number during the Old-Timers’ Day ceremony.
  • NARCO LIVE/DODGERS SERIES: Timmy Trumpet will be in the house at Citi Field Tuesday. Could be a special night. Tough test and a potential NLCS preview against the Dodgers ahead. After that, the Mets’ schedule is the easiest in baseball. They need to beat the teams they should and hope the Braves lose a bit.
  • BILLY WAGNER + JOHN FRANCO + TIM TEUFEL + DOC GOODEN + GLENDON RUSCH INTERVIEWS: We chat with some of the Mets Old Timers before the game about how special the day is and if this Mets team can win the World Series.
