I found my thrill…on blueberry Megill. The Mets are finding ways to win, no matter who is pitching. Rookie Tylor Megill had a strong debut, despite not picking up the win. The Mets bats came to life with Michael Conforto back in there and Brandon Nimmo’s return is on the horizon this weekend. Luis Rojas’ squad has an important four-game series ahead this weekend against the Phillies.

To talk about the Mets splitting four with the Braves, the lineup getting major reinforcements and learn some Spanish, we bring you a new episode of the “Amazin’ But True” podcast with Nelson Figueroa and me, featuring a chat with Mike Puma, a trip to the Nelson Figueroa Spanish Academy and a Bartolo Colon-themed voicemail.

Amazin’ But True Podcast with Jake & Figgie:

  • SERIES SPLIT: Tylor Megill had a solid debut and deserves potentially a few more starts with the injuries in the rotation. This was a strange week with injuries, a few games with no hitting and then an explosion of seven runs Wednesday. Getting Michael Conforto back was huge for this team. Edwin Diaz has been fantastic.
  • PITCHING/NAILS: Did Figgie used to get manicures? Was nail length important to gripping a baseball? Me and Sarah McCrory then make a bet on the Mets-Yankees series next weekend. If the Yankees win two of three or sweep, I will have to get my nails painted orange and blue for a day. She would have to do the same and wear the “Amazin’ But True” shirt to a Mets game.

You Got Mail: We play a voicemail from a listener in Oregon, who wants to know whether the Mets should sign Bartolo Colon to help in the rotation.

Nelson Figueroa Spanish Academy: Figgie teaches me and Sarah how to say “injury list” and “rookie debut” in Spanish.

Mike Puma Interview: NY Post Mets beat writer

  • MEGILL/ROTATION: Megill deserves another start, especially if Marcus Stroman needs to miss one. Mets will need to add a starting pitcher to the rotation within the next month. We may not see Carlos Carrasco until August and Noah Syndergaard until September. Will the Mets let Jacob deGrom throw more pitches?
  • LINEUP: Is Brandon Nimmo definitely back this weekend? What will the lineup look like with him in it? When will we see J.D. Davis back?
