Mets pitcher Santiago Valdez has been suspended for 50 games under baseball’s minor league drug program after a positive test for a performance-enhancing substance. The suspension of Valdez, who is with the Mets’ Gulf Coast League team, began Friday. The 22-year-old righty is 0-1 with a 4.02 ERA in 12 appearances for the club.

Earlier this season, Mets pitcher Johan Romero was suspended 50 games for testing positive for metabolites of Stanozolol. Romero was with the Mets’ Venezuelan Summer League team.

Valdez was penalized for the same drug.
