Are You Ready?
It’s been 20 years since Shea Stadium last saw a Game 7. In less than an hour, the big blue stadium in Flushing will rock again. You wouldn’t know their season is on the line from watching the Mets in pregame today. They seem relaxed and ready to get the game going.
Starting pitcher Oliver Perez arrived just before 5 p.m. He strolled down the hallway to the clubhouse, accepting wishes of good luck along the way. If clothing is any indication, he’s ready for the big stage. He was wearing an “Air Jordan” long sleeve T-shirt. A Jordanesque performance tonight would send the Mets to the World Series.
Willie Randolph seems to be relishing his first postseason as a manager. He has been rloose in his press conferences and really appears to be enjoying the moment.
Mookie Wilson was next to the batting cage while the Cardinals hit, watching his stepson Preston Wilson take some cuts.
Actress Glenn Close was also on the field, sporting a cast on her left foot. She is singing the national anthem.
Most obscure jersey I’ve seen: Rick Reed. That’s hardcore. They just showed a “You Gotta Believe” sign on the big screen. Nothing gets the Mets crowd more fired up. Also, saw one fan holding up the front page of today’s Post with “Believe” over a picture of Jose Reyes.
OK, 40 minutes until first pitch. Enjoy. These don’t come around too often.
