Aroldis Chapman flashed a 100-watt smile late Saturday afternoon in the Yankees’ clubhouse.

The Yankees’ dominating closer wasn’t talking about his latest save in a 2-1 win over the Twins. Instead, the ear-to-ear smile was produced by something else: seeing his former Cuban National teammates for the first time in seven years.

With the Yankees off Thursday and the Cuban National Team in the area for exhibition games, Chapman met the team at a hotel whose location he did not want to divulge and cherished the chance to see former teammates.

“I had the opportunity to visit and see some of the friends I played with back in Cuba,” Chapman said through a bright smile. “Some of those guys I haven’t seen since 2009. I was very happy and I know they were very happy to see me as well.”

Chapman played with the Cuban National Team in the 2009 World Baseball Classic. He defected in July of that year.
