Astros ace Justin Verlander exited his start Sunday against the Orioles because of a right calf injury, Houston manager Dusty Baker told reporters.

The 39-year-old pitcher left Houston’s eventual 3-1 win against Baltimore in the third inning after striking out six. Verlander injured his calf while covering first base and will get imaging done Monday, Baker said.

Verlander allowed no runs on three hits over 60 pitches before coming out of the game. Houston reliever Seth Martinez began warming up while Verlander was still pitching.

The two-time Cy Young winner is having a stellar season in his 18th campaign, posting a 16-3 record with a majors league leading 1.84 ERA. The righty rebounded from Tommy John surgery this season after being out for the entirety of the Astros’ 2021 campaign.
