Astros outfielder Jake Marisnick is suspended for two games after an ugly collision at home plate sent Angels catcher Jonathon Lucroy to the hospital this past Sunday, MLB announced on Thursday.
Angels manager Brad Ausmus called for the league to evaluate the incident after telling reporters “it certainly didn’t look like a clean play” following the game. Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina blasted Marisnick on Instagram, calling it a “

Lucroy suffered a concussion and a fractured nose in the collision, according to the team.
Umpires called Marisnick out under the home-plate collision rule, and despite an Astros challenge, it was upheld. The league instituted the home-plate collision rule in 2014 to prevent dangerous plays at the plate.
Marisnick will sit for the first half of the Astros’ series with the Rangers this week.
