The MRI results on Carlos Beltran aren’t yet public, but the Mets’ center fielder is hanging tough in his bid for a starting spot in the All-Star Game next month in St. Louis. The latest totals released today by Major League Baseball show Beltran has expanded to 140,000 his lead over Chicago’s Alfonso Soriano for the third and final outfield spot.

David Wright, meanwhile, remains comfortably in front of the third-base voting for the July 14 game at Busch Stadium.

The news isn’t so good for Jose Reyes. The Mets’ shortstop — on the DL indefinitely with a torn hamstring tendon — fell to fifth in the balloting at that position in today’s totals thanks to a sudden charge by Miguel Tejada of Houston.
