The Cubs may need to find a new trick – or comedian — to beat the Mets.
Actor and Cubs fan Bill Murray was asked by manager Joe Maddon to touch Game 2’s lineup card for good luck, but it seemed to backfire, resulting in a 4-1 Mets victory that extended their lead to 2-0 in the NLCS.
“Not only did you touch it, you rubbed it all over your body. Do you think that is why the Cubs lost [Sunday]?” talk show host Jimmy Kimmel asked Murray on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on Monday.
“I think we would have won, but I was wearing too many layers,” Murray said.
When Kimmel, a big Mets fan who threw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to Game 2, joked if Murray had stayed in his original seat — instead of fleeing from the cold — the Cubs might have won.
“We thought maybe it would change the mojo a little bit,” Murray said.
Still, Murray thinks the series is far from over, suggesting the long-suffering Cubs will force a decisive Game 7 at Citi Field.
“I feel as a real baseball fan that the ideal scenario is for each home team to win all its games — until the seventh game, and then we decide quien es mas macho,” Murray said.
