Marcus Stroman blew up.

The Blue Jays pitcher says he was just fired up after Toronto’s 5-2 loss to the Red Sox on Sunday, after which the frustration of a terrible season reached its boiling point.

A reporter for Sportsnet, a Canadian television network, asked the struggling pitcher after his five-inning, four-run start about his time with the Vancouver Canadians, Toronto’s rookie league team, for a feature piece.

Stroman declined to answer the question at first, the Athletic reported, but spoke his mind after the cameras stopped rolling.

“We just lost to the Boston Red Sox,” Stroman said. “I don’t think that’s relevant at all right now.”

He then went off on a tirade that included, “We’re f–king terrible.”

In the aftermath, Stroman realized he went too far. He went to Twitter to clarify, saying he was frustrated at the reporter’s question, and emphasized the Blue Jays are merely “terrible right now.”

“Media asked me a question that had absolutely nothing to do with the game, team, or my performance,” Stroman said. “We just lost and it’s extremely frustrating. I’m not playing well. Neither are we as a team. After the camera shut off, I said word for word…’I’m terrible right now. We’re terrible RIGHT NOW. It’s frustrating and that question isn’t relevant at all.'”

The Long Island native holds a 5.86 ERA, making it his worst season in the majors so far. The Blue Jays, at 43-52, are sitting 23 1/2 games behind the Red Sox in the AL East.
