It didn’t take much for the Brewers to pry a former National League Reliever of the Year away from the Blue Jays.
On Monday, Milwaukee acquired reliever John Axford for the meager price of $1, according to the Associated Press.
Axford had been pitching for Toronto’s Triple-A affiliate, where he registered a 0.84 ERA across 10.2 innings. Since the 38-year-old was not on the Blue Jays’ 40-man roster, the Brewers were able to acquire him even though the July 30 trade deadline already passed.

Axford has previously pitched parts of five seasons with the Brewers, including a 2011 season in which he registered 46 saves and pitched to a 1.95 ERA, capturing National League Reliever of the Year honors. His 106 saves with the club rank second in franchise history.
