There won’t be a rematch, at least not in the booth.
Tigers broadcasters Rod Allen and Mario Impemba will not return to Fox Sports next season, sources told USA Today, after the two reportedly had a fight in the booth last season.
The altercation occurred Sept. 4 and neither returned for the remainder of the season. According to Local 4 in Detroit, the dispute started over a special chair Impemba used for his back issues.
The issues started before a late-season game and continued afterward, with Allen allegedly pursuing and choking Impemba. Allen’s agent called those accusations “utter fabrications.”
Impemba had been the primary play-by-play voice for the Tigers since 2002, with Allen joining him the following season. In their absence last season, Matt Shepard and Kirk Gibson called the majority of games, USA Today reported.
